Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 12, 2026
We built OpenMarket to make shopping simpler — with AI search, checkout, and purchase-agent help across web and mobile. This policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why we need it, and what you can do about it. It applies to openmarket.com, our iOS app, and our Android app.
Who this policy covers
This policy applies whenever you use OpenMarket — browsing without an account, signing up, chatting with our AI concierge, checking out, or contacting support.
If you’re comfortable using the Service, we hope you’re comfortable with this policy too. If not, please don’t use OpenMarket.
Some parts of the experience involve trusted partners (like Stripe for payments or Google for sign-in). They handle your data under their own policies as well. Our Terms of Service explain more about how the Service works.
A few terms we use
Personal information means data that identifies you or your device — like your email, order history, or chat messages.
Your account is the profile tied to your email or Google sign-in.
Premium is our paid plan with extra features, billed through Stripe.
Purchase agent is our hands-on buying service: we help source items, send you a quote, and fulfill the order after you approve and pay.
Service providers are companies we hire to run parts of OpenMarket (hosting, email, payments, AI). They may only use your data to help us serve you.
What we collect
We only collect what we need to run OpenMarket well. Depending on how you use the app, that may include:
Profile & account — your name, email, password (stored securely hashed, never in plain text), optional phone and address, language preference, referral code, and whether your email is verified or you’re on Premium.
Sign-in with Google — if you choose it, we receive basic profile info Google shares with us (typically name and email).
Shopping activity — cart items, wishlists, orders, purchase-agent requests and quotes, and products you view or save.
Payments — Stripe processes cards for us. We see payment status and subscription info, but not your full card number.
AI chat — messages you send our shopping assistant, search queries, and conversation history so we can reply and pick up where you left off on another device.
Preferences — categories or brands you seem interested in, to make results more relevant.
Support messages — whatever you send us through the contact form, plus optional order references.
Email preferences — whether you’re subscribed to marketing emails and whether you’ve unsubscribed.
Device & usage — things like app version, device type, IP address, crash logs, and anonymous analytics (e.g. which screens are visited) when analytics are enabled.
Why we use it
We use your information to:
• run OpenMarket — search, recommendations, checkout, purchase agent, order updates, and support;
• process payments and Premium subscriptions;
• send important emails (verification, orders) and, if you’ve opted in, occasional product or feature updates;
• remember your language and personalize your experience;
• keep the platform safe and prevent abuse;
• meet legal requirements; and
• improve the product using aggregated, non-identifying statistics.
We don’t make life-changing automated decisions about you without telling you where the law requires it.
If you’re in the EEA or UK
European and UK privacy law asks us to name a “legal basis” for processing. Usually it’s one of these:
• we need the data to provide the service you asked for (contract);
• we have a legitimate interest — like preventing fraud or improving the app — that doesn’t outweigh your privacy;
• you’ve given consent — for example for optional marketing or cookies; you can withdraw consent anytime; or
• the law requires us to keep or share certain records.
Who we share with
We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only when needed:
With service providers — cloud hosts, email senders, Stripe, Google Sign-In, analytics, and AI/search partners. They’re contractually bound to protect your data and use it only for us.
With fulfillment partners — when you use purchase agent or certain orders, we may share name, address, and contact details so the item can be sourced and delivered.
For legal or safety reasons — if required by law or to protect you, us, or others.
In a business change — if OpenMarket is acquired or merged, your data may transfer under the same protections.
When you choose a third party — if you tap through to Amazon, Rakuten, or another site, their privacy rules apply there.
We don’t give your data to other companies for their own advertising without permission where the law forbids it.
Services we rely on
OpenMarket works with partners you may already know:
Google — for “Sign in with Google.”
Stripe — for checkout and Premium billing.
Marketplaces — Amazon, Rakuten, AliExpress, and others — for product search and listings.
Analytics — such as Google Analytics on the website, when turned on.
Each has its own privacy policy. We’re not responsible for how they handle data once you leave OpenMarket or use their checkout directly.
About our AI assistant
Our AI reads your messages to search products and suggest options. Your chats may be processed by AI providers under strict confidentiality terms.
AI is helpful but not perfect — prices, stock, and product details can be wrong or out of date. Please double-check before you buy.
We save conversation history linked to your account so you can continue on web or mobile. You can ask us to delete account-linked chat data (see “Your choices” below).
Payments
Stripe handles all card payments. They’re PCI-certified and keep card details on their systems, not ours.
We receive enough information to confirm payment, fulfill orders, and manage Premium (including whether your subscription is active).
You can manage or cancel Premium inside the app or through Stripe where available — details are in our Terms.
Cookies & similar tech
On the website we may use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember your language, understand traffic patterns, and keep the site secure.
You can block cookies in your browser, though some features may not work as well. Where the law requires it, we’ll ask before non-essential cookies.
The mobile apps use similar on-device storage. Google Sign-In and Stripe may also set their own cookies or identifiers during checkout or login.
Mobile apps (iOS & Android)
The apps may collect technical info — device model, OS version, app version, and deep-link data (for example when you open a verification or payment link like openmarket://…).
Apple and Google also collect download and crash data through their app stores, under their policies.
We only ask for permissions when a feature needs them. If that changes in a future update, we’ll explain in the app and update this policy.
Ads
Free users may see ads in some versions of OpenMarket.
On the website, we may use tools like Google AdSense.
In the app, some releases may show banner ads through Google AdMob. Premium subscribers generally don’t see in-app ads.
If we add or change ad tools, we’ll update this policy and the app store privacy forms (Apple App Privacy, Google Play Data safety) accordingly.
Data across borders
We may store or process data in countries other than where you live. When the law requires it, we use approved safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) so your information stays protected to the standard described here.
How long we keep data
We keep information while your account is active and for a reasonable time after, unless you ask us to delete it or the law requires us to keep it longer.
Order and tax records may be kept for several years. Support tickets stick around long enough to resolve issues. If you unsubscribe from marketing, we keep a minimal record so we don’t email you again.
Anonymous stats that can’t identify you may be kept indefinitely.
How we protect your data
We use HTTPS, access controls, and other industry practices to guard your information.
No system is 100% secure. Please use a strong, unique password and don’t share your login details.
Your choices & rights
Depending on where you live, you may be able to:
• see what data we hold about you;
• fix inaccurate information;
• ask us to delete data;
• get a copy in a portable format;
• object to certain uses; or
• opt out of marketing emails (use the unsubscribe link in any email, or our unsubscribe page).
Contact us through the Contact page to make a request. We may verify it’s really you before we act. We’ll respond within the time the law gives us.
If you’re unhappy with our answer, you may complain to your local data protection authority.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account on the web or in the OpenMarket app: My Page → Delete account.
We’ll verify your identity (password if you have one, and typing DELETE to confirm). We cancel any Stripe Premium subscription on the account. If you subscribed through Apple, also cancel in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
Deletion is permanent — you’ll lose wishlists, chat threads, and Premium access. Some anonymized purchase records may be kept for tax or fraud prevention as described in this policy. Backups may take a short time to clear fully.
You can still contact us through the Contact page if you need help.
Region-specific notes
California residents — you may have rights to know, delete, and correct personal information under CCPA/CPRA. We don’t sell personal information for money. Reach out via Contact.
Japan — under the APPI, you may ask about disclosure, correction, or deletion of retained personal data.
Elsewhere — local laws may give you extra rights. Just ask — we’re happy to help where we can.
Kids
OpenMarket isn’t meant for children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country without parental consent). We don’t knowingly collect data from kids.
If you think a child gave us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
When we update this policy
We’ll post changes on this page and update the date at the top. For important changes, we may email you or show a notice in the app.
Continuing to use OpenMarket after an update means you accept the new policy, except where the law requires fresh consent.
Questions?
Privacy questions, access requests, or complaints — reach us through the Contact page on this site, or the support email listed on the App Store or Google Play.
We read every message and will get back to you as soon as we reasonably can.
